I pulled an all-nighter last night- don’t ask me why. So instead of wasting my whole day catching up on sleep, I decided to go for a 2 hour walk this morning. Surprisingly, most people in Siem Reap, Cambodia are already up and headed to work or school by this time. Here are some of the interesting things that I saw! If I had to title this selection of images, I would call it “Same Same, But Different” simply because a lot of the images I saw were in a lot of ways similar to what I am used to back home, but slightly different. The photos get more interesting as you scroll down… HOPE YOU ENJOY! 🙂 I had a blast! I’ve heard of leveling a building, but this is high quality leveling! Just look at the even mixture of stone and brick… and they made it all so flat! American Red Bull is the same logo with a very different taste. If you know and like American Red Bull, you might not like it so much in Cambodia. Plus, even this version is expensive! haha Every morning and every afternoon these ladies work hard to keep the streets dust and dirt free! I owe them my thanks… not too long ago I was making a turn on my bike and the tires slid out from under me because of dirt on the road. You ladies are awesome! They like to do the whole wheelbarrow thing backwards here. Found this guy staring at me through the bushes! o.O I’m a little more used to garden gnomes or fake deer. Trash cans emptied almost daily by city workers. A little different from the big green or blue bins that we have in NC. I like these though. They won’t scratch or dent your car/moto if you hit them because they are made of rubber! The process of selling ice_ Step 1: Saw a line in the ice. Step 2: break the ice by pounding on a cleaver. Step 3: grind the ice down and sell it in shopping bags. Kids are just the same! 🙂 Adorable and some smile and wave, while others don’t really like to have their picture taken… but they’re still adorable! Equivalent of a Pep Boys, O’ Riley’s, or Advance Auto Parts You can pay to get your moto washedCats still annoy me here just like they do back home. It took me a while to realize what this cat was looking at. Soon after, I saw it.R.I.P Mr. Medium Rat Grandmothers still sit out on the deck preparing veggies. Mamaw and Mamaw, this one reminded me of you two breaking beans together 🙂Not much that’s the same about this image, but the one below!!!!Caesar Milan from The Dog Whisperer ^^^^^^^^^! o.O You know it looks like him! Papaw, they collect cans to sell here too! Reminiscent of all the good ol days crushing coke cans with you in the garage! Here, they sell gasoline for your car or moto at some of the small vendors on the side of the road. (of course, there was a real gas station not 15 yards from this HAHA) However, if a riot ever broke out, these were basically pre-made molotov cocktails! And there’s always that one weird guy wanting to offer you cigarettes and asking you to take his picture while he poses. Haha, I have to admit- it did turn out pretty cool. Older gentlemen sit by enjoying the sun and fresh air while supervising the younger granddaughter as they work. That’s the life! COOL CANE TOO! Made out of pvc pipe What a kind face. I wish I could have spoken with him and his family more! The granddaughter spoke only a little english, although her pronunciation was really good. She said that she wanted to learn more, but her only free time was at night. That’s sad… but she certainly learned how to be a good salesperson and be extremely polite 🙂 I would love to see more families like this in America!
